Biography

Kathryn L. Avila is an experienced litigator who has devoted her practice to seeking justice for clients who have been injured and wronged.

Before she joined NGRV, Kathryn maintained a nationwide practice advocating for plaintiffs in mass tort litigations such as the Dupont C8 Litigation, 3M Ear Plug Litigation, DePuy Attune Knee Litigation, and the BP Oil Spill Litigation. Kathryn’s passion for justice and her empathetic personality led her to a specialized legal practice devoted to representing survivors of sex trafficking in civil lawsuits where she aimed to hold corporate actors responsible for their facilitation of sex trafficking under the Federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act. Kathryn’s compassion and trauma-informed approach helped her triumph over several novel and complex legal issues on behalf of her clients. Due to her expertise, Kathryn frequently spoke at national conferences to teach other lawyers how to effectively litigate lawsuits on behalf of sex trafficking survivors.

Kathryn’s complex litigation experience and expertise brings valuable insight to her legal practice where she continues to advocate for clients who come to her for help.

Kathryn is an active member in the American Association for Justice’s Minority Caucus, New Lawyers Division, and Women Trial Lawyers Caucus. Kathryn currently serves as Chair-Elect of the Florida Justice Association’s Minority Caucus, a Board Member for the Florida Justice Association’s Women’s Caucus, and serves as a member of FJA’s committee devoted to the prevention of human trafficking in Florida. Kathryn sits on the Board of Directors for the Florida Justice Association and the Legal Services of North Florida. Her advocacy and achievements have been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 – Civil Plaintiff.

Kathryn is licensed to practice law in all state courts throughout Florida, Colorado, and Oregon. She is also admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

In her spare time, Kathryn enjoys hiking and learning about new cultures and perspectives through travel and food.
